Whitewashed paper

A recent discovery at the craft store led to a whole new level of fun for me in creating mobiles and other paper crafts. This paper from Core'dinations is coated with a white, chalky layer that can be sanded off to reveal the core color beneath. I've embossed it using my Cuttlebug, and then I gently sanded off the top layer.

The darker the core color, the more striking the results, naturally. But all the colors I've tried so far are lovely. I'm thinking this could lend a shabby chic and/or beachy element to the mobiles. In fact, I stumbled upon this paper when looking for something to coordinate with a sea-foam color. I hope this does the trick!

Happy birthday to my littlest crafter

Happy first birthday, Naomi!

(I was inspired to make her crown after seeing several fun felt crowns on Etsy. She did not wear it for very long after I took this photo :) )

Fun with photos

Thank you, goshery, for reminding me that taking photos for my Etsy shop can be fun! I revisited one of my favorite spots for good light in the house at this time of the year (the shelf in my dining room) and had some fun with props...

Custom mobile combinations

These are some possible color combinations for my latest custom mobile order (you can zoom in quite a bit after clicking on the image below).

Combo i has a different moon, just to show another yellow patterned paper, which can be substituted for the other yellow paper.

Here are more photos for a closer look at some of the patterns. It was surprisingly difficult to find bright blue gingham paper, but I got pretty close with a scrap I've had for a while, and some other sources...

Making the most of a gloomy summer

I know better than to complain about a foggy and mild summer, so I decided to take advantage of the overcast morning for its good outdoor lighting ... and viola! some decent photos for my shop:

I've made two of these, and I plan to put these in my shop soon...

Finally ... new items in my shop

With Naomi sleeping in my arms, I single-handedly (literally) uploaded some new cards to my Etsy shop. They've been ready since early May ... and here they are.

Delicious typewriters

I've been wanting to make a treasury on Etsy ever since I found out it was possible to showcase other sellers' lovely items. Apparently the Etsy crew recently revamped the treasury-making process, and it's now easy for everyone to make a list whenever they want... I took the opportunity to combine and share two of my favorite things -- typewriters and rainbow colors...
