My Etsy store is now open!

Come check out my wares at!

I'll be uploading items to the shop as I create them, so come back often...

Here's a peek at my store's banner, which Bret photographed and designed using some of my favorite new papers.

If I haven't done so already, I'll be adding a link to my store on the side of this blog, featuring photos of my merchandise.

Fun with texture

This past weekend, my mom and took some time to work on crafts together. She was kind enough to share her new Cuttlebug paper embosser and die cutter. I was also inspired to make round note cards and use my newest stamp set (bottom).

5 seconds of fame

My friend and former editor Ryan (the same Ryan who named "RooksPaperScissors") recently told me that one of my cards was seen on the comedy TV show "Psych," which he'd been watching on DVD. In the first episode of the second season, actor Tim Curry (of "Rocky Horror Picture Show" fame) is reading an issue of the "Santa Maria Sun" on which is featured one of my handmade cards!

I was bidding the newspaper farewell after I'd worked there for 6 1/2 years, and I'd thought an appropriate image for the cover would be a handmade goodbye card.

It's not obvious in the photo, but I did not stamp the "Thanks for the memories" -- that was added when the cover was being designed.

Etsy countdown

I'm steadily checking off items on my Etsy to-do list, while adding inventory (including this sweet taste of summer cherry pie). It looks like I will be able to launch as early as this Friday, July 25, but I might still wait until Aug. 1. I'll keep you updated!

Hydrangea pretties

Thank you, Sarah T., for the lovely flowers and inspiration!

On Sunday, I co-hosted a Stampin' Up workshop. Instead of using the usual delicious papers, we stamped on decadent silk, which was the idea of my co-host Sarah. It was a challenge to create lasting and wearable images on the smooth, clean slate of silk. Demonstrator Karen Indendi taught us the basics of stamping on fabric and provided some ideas, the inks, and the silks and set us free to create whatever we wanted. I loved how different everyone's came out and how inspiring it was to work alongside such creative and talented ladies...

Earlier today, I checked out an artsy and inspiring blog that my aunt (a fellow accomplished crafter) sent to me, and I caught myself drooling over this post. Someday ... but for now, I'm happy to share a room with my 18-month-old daughter.

Etsy preview

On Sunday, my friend, Sarah, and I went on a hunt for the perfect props for photos for my upcoming Etsy store. Since the store will be known as RooksPaperScissors, a bird theme became a good starting point...

I've photographed all the cards/sets of cards I've made so far, so I can check that off my list. I'm still hoping for an Aug. 1 grand opening...

Thank you, Bret!

My husband Bret deserves a special thank you for designing and creating my Rooks Paper Scissors image. I have always been impressed with his sketch drawings, and I thought it would be a perfect style for my logo. We'll now have it made into a rubber stamp so I can put it on the backs of the cards I sell on Etsy.

Speaking of Etsy, I made a list of things to do before I can launch my store. It's long but doable, and I hope to launch the store by Aug. 1. I've already created more than a dozen sets of cards to sell. I'll keep you updated.

First impressions

I share my craft space with my 17-month-old daughter--half the room contains her books and toys, the other half contains my scrapbooks and stamps. We do pretty well playing with our respective toys, sometimes for as long as 20 minutes at a time (Natalie doesn't stay in one place for too long). Lately, she's been interested in whatever I'm doing on my craft table. Today, I let her play with my stamps while she sat on my lap. She did a good job of inking the stamp and pressing it firmly on the paper. She then inked her hand and later her dress...

Natalie scrapbook ... finally

I finally found the perfect paper for the first page of my daughter's scrapbook. I've been faithfully documenting her first 17+ months thus far, but I had yet to sit down and use all the beautiful papers I've been collecting for her scrapbook...until yesterday. Now that I've started the project, it's all I want to work on (of course!). Instead, I'm making sure I balance my time between the scrapbook, cards I want to send to people, and building my inventory for my Etsy launch.
